ALBAWABA - In a recent development in India, a congress center hosting Jehovah's Witnesses came under a bomb attack, resulting in two fatalities and leaving at least 40 individuals injured.

The attack, executed with an improvised explosive device (IED), occurred in Kochi, Kerala, with five of the wounded reported to be in critical condition.

The person responsible for the attack, Dominic Martin, took to social media to claim responsibility, revealing that his beliefs about the teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses being "anti-national" had evolved over the past six years. Martin, located 40 kilometers away in the Thrissur region, turned himself in at a local police station after the incident.

Authorities are currently investigating Martin's claims, stressing that it may take some time to verify their accuracy. At this stage, they have not confirmed his direct involvement in the attack, and the investigation is ongoing.

The incident was marked by a series of three consecutive explosions within the congress center. Sreekumar, the regional spokesperson for Jehovah's Witnesses, clarified that Martin was not a registered member of their group. Approximately 2,300 people were in attendance at the three-day event, and the first explosion occurred at the center of the hall, followed by two more simultaneous blasts on either side.

Jehovah's Witnesses is an international Christian denomination that originated in the United States in the 1870s. It is estimated that the group has around 60,000 followers in India.
