Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee left New Delhi Tuesday for a four-day official visit to Iran aimed at strengthening political and economic relations, reported the official IRNA news agency.
India and Iran will sign a Tehran Declaration during the high-profile visit, the first by an Indian premier in seven years, said the agency.
The declaration is being seen as a benchmark for a new era in Indo-Iran relations.
Prior to his departure, Vajpayee said that Iran and India had historical, cultural and business ties and now "we are taking our bilateral relations forward in the field of science and technology."
"I am confident my visit will strengthen bilateral relations," he said, adding that both countries shared common concerns on issues like the Taliban regime in Afghanistan and cross-border terrorism, IRNA quoted him as saying – Albawaba.com
