Hyundai Motor has announced it has finished preparations to ship 400 buses worth US$17 million ordered by the Iraqi Education Ministry, reported Digital Chosum.com, Korean website.
Mainly educational institutions and various schools in Iraq's major cities will use the company’s 'Super Aero City' model buses, said the report, adding that Hyundai sold more than 400 buses to Iraq last year taking up the largest share of the country's bus market at 28 percent. Mercedes-Benz comes next with 17 percent.
Hyundai has been making steady inroads into Iraq as it expects the Middle Eastern country to become the largest auto market in the region, if and when the current UN embargo is lifted.
Iraq can buy its needs of goods through a UN sponsored oil-for-food program which has recently been expanded for another six months after the UK and the US failed to introduced their “smart sanctions” plan aimed at limiting Iraq’s ability to obtain technology and arms – Albawaba.com
