Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (“Huawei”), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, displayed its leadership in digital media entertainment and demonstrated the powerful value of chain consolidation at the IEC’s Broadband World Forum Asia 2006.
Huawei led a panel discussion and workshop on “Digital Entertainment Strategy to Aid Business Shift of Operators”, which included participation from Huawei’s partners and vendors in the digital media entertainment industry and key operators. The discussion focused on exploring the factors resulting in the integration of digital media entertainment with communication and development strategies. In a separate discussion, Huawei also highlighted the importance of content selection and strategic cooperation between operators, CP, equipment vendors during the commercial deployment and operations of media service platforms and applications.
According to Zhang Guoxin, President of Digital Entertainment Product Line, digital entertainment is one of Huawei’s four development strategies and, to construct a digital entertainment product line, the company has established a digital entertainment media center. Huawei recognizes that the integration of IP media entertainment, mobile media entertainment, and digital TV will create greater benefits for operators looking to transform their business model in this area. The company’s digital media entertainment system penetrates all network layers and features a comprehensive product portfolio, a wide range of products and strong association with the links.
To ensure that the digital media entertainment system is adequately supported, Huawei has designed a specially integrated product solution that cuts across several layers including service support, content network, bearer network, and family network. With a complete offering of both solutions and strategies, Huawei is able to provide an end-to- end solution for operators, as well as deliver strategic planning, solution consolidation, bearer network optimisation, and strategic cooperation services.
Huawei’s IPTV solution has been applied in over 40 commercial and trial commercial offices in countries such as France, Thailand, Ukraine, and Bosnia-Herzegovina as well as in China, last year with 200,000 users. In November 2005, Huawei won the significant, milestone IPTV project for China Telecom (Guangdong Branch). The project includes 60,000 concurrent flows, covering several million broadband users in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and other cities in the Pearl River Delta.
During the IEC Broadband World Forum Asia 2006, Huawei customers experienced end-to-end digital entertainment solutions, which includes the H.264 based IPTV on demand, live broadcasting, time-shifted TV and the broadband based family video communication tools. Customers were also able to personally review Huawei’s fixed network terminals, for example, Huawei’s family gateway HG550.
As a leader in providing digital entertainment solutions, Huawei has become an important contributor to the development of the future digital media entertainment industry.
