ALBAWABA - The United States military announced that three commercial ships in the Red Sea were attacked by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the US warship declared shooting down three drones fired by Houthi in self-defense. US military Central Command revealed the Houthi attack started at about 9:15 am local time (0615 GMT) in Sanaa, the Associated Press reported.
The Central Command said: "These attacks represent a direct threat to international commerce and maritime security." It added: "They have jeopardized the lives of international crews representing multiple countries around the world."
On Sunday night, the spokesperson of Houthi Yahya Sare'e announced in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the group targeted two ships in the Red Sea.
He wrote: "This morning, the naval forces carried out a targeting operation against two Israeli ships in Bab al-Mandab, namely the “Unity Explorer” ship and the “NUMBER 9” ship. The first Israeli ship was targeted by an anti-ship missile, while the second ship was targeted by a sea drone."
Sare'e maintained: "The two ships were targeted after rejecting warnings from the Yemeni naval forces.
The Yemeni armed forces continue to prevent Israeli ships from navigating in the Red and Arab Seas until the Israeli aggression against our steadfast brothers in the Gaza Strip stops."
