A bomb was detonated on Wednesday outside the Gaza Strip home of Suleiman Abu Mutleq, director-general of the Palestinian Preventive Security Agency in the Strip on Wednesday.
Palestinian security forces blame Hamas for the attack, which caused serious damage to Mutleq's home in Khan Younis, blowing off its front door, according to Reuters.
The agency that Mutleq led was responsible for several arrests of Hamas members in a crackdown on the group in 1996.
The incident came one day after a senior Hamas leader was seriously injured in the Gaza Strip after he was shot by gunmen in a drive-by shooting in Rafah.
Also on Wednesday, members of the Islamic Jihad and the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades claimed to have fired missiles at an Israeli naval ship Rafah's coast. Israel has thus far denied any such incident.
The Islamic Jihad took responsibility as well for firing several Qassam rockets at targets outside the Gaza Strip in southern Israel overnight Tuesday.
The group claimed that the attack was in response to the killing of a senior leader of the group in the West Bank town of Jenin the day before by Israel, according to Maan.
Palestinian sources reported that electricity was cut off shortly after the missile attack, leaving large parts of northern Gaza Strip without power.
Israeli sources, however, claim that one of the rockets hit a main electrical pole within Palestinian territory, resulting in the power outage, and that Israel had not cut power to the Strip.
Meanwhile in the West Bank, Israeli troops arrested seven Palestinians, including six Hamas and one Islamic Jihad member in overnight raids in the towns of Ramallah and Qalqilya.
