Hizbullah's Deputy Secretary General, Naim Kassem, denied on Tuesday that the Lebanese Resistance party was responsible for the major attacks on U.S. targets in Beirut in the 1980s.

“Hizbullah is not responsible for the bombings, which occurred against the Americans in Lebanon,” he said.

The most significant of these attacks was a bombing in the Marine command center and the American Embassy in Beirut, assaults that resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Americans. The person who is held responsible for the attacks is Imad Mughniyeh, who is in charge of Hizbullah activities outside Lebanon, and who is described by Israel as “Number 2 in the Hezbollah”.

In an interview to the American Fox News Network, Kassem claimed that, “[the attacks] that occurred were part of many incidents that took place in the Lebanese arena on the Lebanon front. We commit heroic and holy acts against Israel. We have done this since 1982, and announce it to all”.

Kassem stressed that the party’s main aim is to “liberate the conquered land. We have no other goal,” he acknowledged.

Kassem also pointed out that Hizbullah was not involved in any other conflicts. “We don't see it as a fitting thing to get into any other conflict other than liberating the conquered land,” he explained. He discharged U.S. allegations against Hizbullah as being politically motivated and “not based on any proof”. (Albawaba.com)
