The Lebanese Hizbollah movement and Iran dismissed on Sunday claims by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon that Iran has sent missiles into Lebanon which are capable of reaching central Israel, reported the Daily Star newspaper.
Head of Hizbollah’s media unit and MP, Mohammed Raad, was quoted as saying that Sharon’s claims were “an attempt to win over international sympathy and bolster military assistance for the Zionist entity.”
Raad said that such claims were “an indication of the fear in which the enemy has lived since its defeat in Lebanon.”
Sharon accused Iran on Friday of sending missiles to Lebanon which could reach as far as central Israel and of turning Lebanon into an “international center for terrorism.”
For its part, Iran rejected Sharon’s claim, said the paper.
“The remarks by the Zionist regime’s prime minister are sheer lies,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Assefi said, cited by the official IRNA news agency.
“Such ridiculous claims are aimed to divert public opinion in the region from intensification of the Zionist regime’s policies of violence, intimidation and tension,” Assefi added.
Iranian ambassador in Beirut Mohammad Ali Subhani told IRNA on Sunday that the Israeli claims were “groundless.”
Subhani said Israel considered any resistance from occupied Arab lands as terrorist acts, while it committed the “worst and inhuman acts” in Lebanon and Palestine – Albawaba.com
