ALBAWABA - Following the Israeli attack that killed a Hamas commander in Sidon, Lebanon, Hezbollah announced launching "squadrons of explosive-laden drones" at the Michve Alon base near the Galilee town of Safed.

Hezbollah said in a statement that the strikes were "in response to the attack and assassination carried out by the Israeli enemy in the city of Sidon".

Hezbollah's propaganda office stated it was "the first time" the group had struck that base. On Friday, an Israeli attack on a car in the south Lebanon city of Sidon killed a Hamas leader, according to the Palestinian group and the Israeli military.

According to a Hamas statement, Samer al-Hajj was murdered "in a Zionist strike in the city of Sidon".

A security source told Naharnet, "An Israeli strike targeted a Hamas movement security official from the Ain el-Helweh camp while he was inside his vehicle in the city of Sidon". The source requested anonymity since they were not authorized to communicate with the media.

The Israeli military said that its aircraft hit the Sidon region and "eliminated" Hajj, whom it characterized as "a senior commander" for Hamas in Lebanon.

The Sidon strike, that killed the Hamas commander, counts for being the first of its kind since Israel launched its brutal war on Gaza on October 7. In Lebanon, more than 560 people have been killed since Israel and Hezbollah started exchanging almost daily fires.

Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel

Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.

Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip and captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.

In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
