The March 14 general secretariat called Wednesday on Hezbollah to make a “historical compromise” by handing its weapons to the Lebanese state as well as ending its military involvement in neighboring Syria.
“The March 14 general secretariat advises Hezbollah to abandon its policy of arrogance and return to Lebanon and [abide] to the terms of Lebanon,” said the March 14 following its weekly meeting.
“[Hezbollah should] make a historic compromise that would see the handing of its weapons over to the Lebanese Army and the immediate withdrawal from Syria,” it said.
The opposition also voiced willingness to “move forward with a Cabinet capable of completing the process of building the state in Lebanon and securing the needs of the Lebanese people.”
The March 14 said there was big chance for Hezbollah to play a role in saving Lebanon at this crucial stage that country is going through and “should not miss such an opportunity.”
The group’s call comes days after the European Union decided to designate the “military wing” of Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.
The March 14 said that it had previously warned Hezbollah of the possible consequences of the resistance group’s involvement in Syria and other countries, “but Hezbollah response was that it knew what it was doing.”
