HE Major General Al Mazeina honours winners of Dubai Police Ramadan Tournaments

HE Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Acting Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, honoured the winners of the Dubai Police Ramadan Tournaments at a glittering closing ceremony at Dubai Police Club. The tournaments were held from 20 August to September 1, 2010, and were sponsored by Emirates NBD, a leading bank in the region.

Saif Al Mansoori, Deputy Head, Group Marketing, Emirates NBD, represented the bank at the award ceremony, which was also attended by Major-General Abdul Rahman Mohammad Rafi, Director of General Department for Community Service, Major General Khalfan Khalfan, Director General for Administrative Affairs, Major General Abdul Jalil Mahdi Al Asmawi, Director of General Department for Drug Control and Brigadier Mohamed Saeed Al Marri, Deputy Director of the General Administration of Community at Dubai Police.

More than 166 commissioned officers, non-commissioned officers, other personnel and civilians associated with Dubai Police participated in the tournaments, which were organised by the Sports Department of the General Department for Community Service. The tournaments focused on 10 competitions including snooker, squash, table tennis, tests of physical strengths, chess, tug-of-war, bowling, cross country races, shooting for senior officers and tennis.

Prizes were awarded to the winners of the first three positions in the various games. In addition, the referees, supervisors and organisers of the tournaments and sponsors were also honoured for their direct role in supporting the success of physical activity during Ramadan.

“Dubai Police believes sport is an important leisure activity for its staff to ensure their continued physical, mental and psychological fitness and good health,” said HE Major General Al Mazeina. “These annual tournaments enable our employees to enhance and upgrade their physical and mental capabilities, and assist them to be constantly prepared to meet the various challenges of the most intense and specialised police work. In particular, the shooting championships for senior officers have proved to be very successful as they help the officers to further develop their shooting skills.”

Dubai Police Ramadan Tournaments have been organised by the General Headquarters of Dubai Police for more than 20 years, under the patronage of His Excellency Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander General of Dubai Police. The tournaments are organised under the supervision of His Excellency Al Mazeina, Acting Commander-in-Chief, Dubai Police, with the support of Emirates NBD Bank. The tournaments remain a key feature of the Holy Month of Ramadan and are organised with the objective of providing Dubai Police with healthy leisure and recreational activities.
