In the wake of the Maine mass shooting, Sean Hannity and Newt Gingrich's reactions have ignited a heated debate.

Following the tragic mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, which claimed the lives of at least 16 individuals, Sean Hannity, a prominent Fox News host, sparked disbelief with his response to the incident. Hannity, known for his conservative views, discussed the shooting on his show with Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, advocating for what he called a "personal security plan" in preparation for such situations. He emphasized his own training in mixed martial arts as part of his approach.

"I have a personal security plan. I train in mixed martial arts," Hannity stated during the broadcast, reflecting his belief in being prepared for unforeseen circumstances, even while expressing hope to never have to employ such measures.

The comments from Hannity were met with a mixture of criticism, mockery, and incredulity across social media platforms. Illinois Rep. Sean Casten expressed his skepticism on X, stating, "There is something so dysfunctional about saying 'We could live in communities where you don't have to worry about getting shot, but I'd prefer to keep the guns and fight my way out.'"

Others echoed these sentiments. One user, Brian Tyler, humorously suggested, "Republicans' new plan to stop mass shootings: Karate chop the AR-15s." Dr. Amaya Deakins chimed in with sarcasm, quipping, "Yes, he trains to block bullets with his body," followed by a series of laughing emojis.

Meanwhile, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich proposed a different approach in the aftermath of the tragedy. During an appearance on Hannity's program, Gingrich called for a reevaluation of methods to protect people, suggesting that states with concealed carry permits and constitutional carry permits might offer a faster response to such incidents. He emphasized the need for citizens to have greater ability to protect themselves, given that law enforcement often arrives after the incident has occurred.

The shooting, which unfolded in Lewiston, Maine, began shortly before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, with reports of a shooter at a bowling alley and later at a nearby bar and grill restaurant. The suspect, Robert Card, a trained firearms instructor and army reserve member stationed in Saco, Maine, was identified by police. Card had spent time in a mental health facility over the summer, according to reports.

As the manhunt for Card intensifies, residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain indoors with locked doors for their safety. The shocking incident has once again reignited debates about gun control and safety measures in the United States.
