ALBAWABA - A statement was issued by Izat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas' Political Bureau, in reaction to reports that Mohammed Deif, a well-known figurehead of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, had passed away.

Al-Rishq said in his statement that Hamas and the Qassam Brigades alone should have the last say on any confirmation or rejection of the death of a leader of the group. He made it clear that any allegations or assertions made by people or in the media cannot be taken as true until these organizations make an official statement.

The announcement comes after an earlier accusation made by the Israeli military claiming they killed Mohammed Deif, the commander of Hamas' military arm, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, during an attack on a safe zone in Gaza where Palestinian refugees had taken sanctuary on July 13.
