ALBAWABA- Hamas has officially confirmed the death of Mohammed Deif, the chief of staff of its military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades.
In a statement, Al-Qassam spokesperson Abu Obeida mourned Deif’s "martyrdom," calling him a key figure in the group's military operations.
Abu Obeida has also announced the deaths of several senior commanders of the Al-Qassam Brigades' Military Council along with Mohammed Deif, including Marwan Issa, Ghazi Abu Tama'a, Raed Thabet, and Rafeh Salama.
He described their deaths as martyrdom in what he called "the greatest battle in our people's history for the most sacred cause on earth."
He stated that the leaders were killed while engaged in combat—either in command operations, direct clashes with Israeli forces, or while inspecting their fighters.
"Our martyred leaders achieved their ultimate goal of martyrdom in the path of God," he said, adding that they had sealed their commitment with their "pure blood" and that their deaths were no more significant than those of Palestinian civilians.
Despite their loss, Abu Obeida declared the leaders victorious for inspiring millions and passing the banner to new commanders "who do not know defeat, by the power of God."
Deif is widely believed to have masterminded the October 7 attack alongside Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. He played a crucial role in strengthening the military capabilities of Al-Qassam Brigades and orchestrating numerous operations over the years.
The announcement comes as 110 Palestinian prisoners are being released from Israeli prisons in a widely celebrated event.
No details have been disclosed about the circumstances of Deif’s death, though speculation has persisted for months that he was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza.
