ALBAWABA - Several Palestinian factions, including rivals Hamas and Fatah, have signed a "national unity" agreement during a meeting in China.
"Today we sign an agreement for national unity and we say that the path to completing this journey is national unity. We are committed to national unity and we call for it," Hamas official Abu Marzuk stated.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing announced on Monday that the rivals had recently met. Lin Jian, a Foreign Ministry spokesman, stated that the two delegations visited China to discuss the possibilities in depth and openly.
"China and Palestine share a traditional friendship. We support Palestinian factions in achieving reconciliation and increasing solidarity through dialogue and consultation. We will continue to work actively towards that end," Lin stated.
"The two sides fully expressed their political will to achieve reconciliation through dialogue and consultation, discussed many specific issues and made positive progress," he added.
