ALBAWABA- At least 10 soldiers serving with Yemen’s internationally recognized government were killed or wounded in a Houthi drone strike targeting a military position in the Al-Rasid area of Hareeb district in Ma’rib Governorate, according to local military sources.
The attack targeted a government military site on one of Yemen’s key frontlines, underscoring the continued volatility of the conflict despite previous ceasefire efforts and mediation initiatives.
The strike comes amid a broader escalation of the Houthi movement on multiple fronts. Earlier, the group announced a ban on maritime navigation to Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea ports, threatening to target vessels entering or departing those ports.
The Houthis have also intensified missile and drone attacks against Saudi targets in recent days, describing the operations as retaliation for Saudi-led coalition airstrikes on Sana’a and other Houthi-controlled areas.
The latest attack reflects the group's continued military pressure on government-held territory in northern and central Yemen while simultaneously expanding its operations beyond the country's borders.
Ma’rib remains one of the most strategically significant governorates in Yemen due to its oil and gas resources and its status as the principal stronghold of the internationally recognized government in northern Yemen. The province has been the scene of repeated clashes between Houthi forces and government troops despite years of UN- and Omani-led efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire.
The renewed violence comes as regional tensions continue to rise alongside the escalating confrontation between Iran and the United States, increasing concerns that Yemen's conflict could become further entangled in the broader regional crisis and pose additional risks to stability and maritime security in the Red Sea.
