(MEBG) – A letter of intent for the construction of a gas pipeline from the newly developed gas fields in the Palmyra area, near Aleppo, has been awarded to A Hak Pijpleidingen of the Netherlands reported MEED. Bids are also under study for a gas pipeline from Homs to Banias.
The Dutch firm, which will be working with the locally based Lead Contracting, quoted the lowest price of $46 million in the final round of bidding. The client is the Syrian Petroleum Company.
The pipeline will be about 200 km long and will have a 24-inch diameter.
The gas will be used mainly as fuel for the new 1,000-megawatt Aleppo power station, built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan.
The Palmyra fields developed over the past three years have a combined output capacity of some 250 million cubic feet a day (cf/d). Canada's Titan Projects is working on designs for the development of a further cluster of fields in the area, which are planned to produce 200 million cf/d in total.
