Gulf Arab monarchies will hold their next summit on December 30 and 31 in Bahrain, a government spokesman announced Wednesday.

The five other states in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) -- Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates -- had all agreed the date, the spokesman told the official Gulf News Agency.

The GCC has since 1999 held two summits each year, the first consultative and the second decision-making.

The last gathering took place in Muscat in April when the council called on Iran to resolve a territorial dispute with the United Arab Emirates through dialogue and said it was keen to strengthen relations with Tehran -- MANAMA (AFP)
