Global recognition for Jebel Ali port’s information security management system

First port to gain ISO certification for ISMS

Global marine terminal operator DP World’s flagship Jebel Ali Port has become the first port in the world to gain ISO 27001:2005 certification from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) for its Information Security Management System (ISMS). This comes as part of the company’s enhanced focus on ensuring security management at its terminals.

London-based LRQA, internationally recognised for its management system certifications, carried out a detailed evaluation of Jebel Ali Port’s newly implemented information security management system and certified that it meets the highest standards of excellence in terms of operational, long term efficiency .

Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of DP World, UAE Region, said:
“The ISO 27001:2005 certification adds another feather to the cap of Jebel Ali Port’s all round achievements. We are committed to put in place the most effective information security management systems to ensure excellence in this area. The ISO recognition underlines the success in our efforts and inspires us to continue our drive to maintain Jebel Ali Port’s position as the prime shipping hub of the region in all respects.”

ISO 27001:2005 is the international standard for ISMS. It specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and improving a documented system that meets the security control needs of the company.

The Information Technology Department of DP World, UAE Region, developed the ISMS, put it through strict management and technical reviews and launched it after providing specialised training to the staff.

DP World has invested heavily in all areas of security management throughout its network of terminals across the world, which has already won international recognition. It is the first marine terminal operator to achieve ISO28000 certification for its security management standards. DP World is also a member of US Customs Border Protection agency’s Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) programme.
