A Glimpse into the past

Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage displays a unique set of painting, photographs and manuscripts at Modhesh Fun City

Juma Al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage has brought to Modhesh Fun City, sponsored this year by du, the integrated telecom service provider in the UAE, a selection of 12 paintings, 28 photographs, and 18 manuscripts all laced with a story to tell. Placed prominently at the entrance of the venue, this special display of visual memories takes the visitors to Modhesh Fun City back in time. Due to this, it has caught the attention of adults and children alike. They reflect on a past that has been glorious, they bring back memories of people who have been pivotal in leading the country to prosperity.

Commenting on the exhibition, Ahmad Ali, Manager of Modhesh Fun City said, “We are indeed privileged to host this exhibition of unique photographs and manuscripts. Some of them have been put up for public viewing for the first time. The paintings though simple in their content, reflect our heritage and the lifestyle of our forefathers.”

“Modhesh Fun City is an ideal venue for this display because it gives the youth of today a chance to see and ponder about the progress their country and this society have made. When the elders or representatives at the exhibition tell them about the contributions of the leaders of yesteryears, it humbles them and seeds a feeling of responsibility and love for the present,” he added.

The Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage was established in 1991 as a public, non-profit and welfare, educational institution. It is financed by permanent endowments from its Founder and President, Juma Al Majid. The Centre’s goal is to provide public access to Arabic and Islamic thought, culture and heritage. It collects and restores cultural media of the Arab-Islamic civilization together with manuscripts from the past. Study and research about the UAE and Gulf region is encouraged here. Symposiums, exhibitions and scientific meetings are organised in co-operation with cultural institutions within the region to increase awareness of the past.

Housed at the Airport Expo in Dubai, Modhesh Fun City is open to all from 10.00am to 10.00pm, Saturday to Wednesday. On Thursdays and Fridays, the venue remains open until 12.00am. It opens at 3.00pm on Fridays. Entry fee is AED 20 per person.
