Germany refused to comment Monday on a proposal by US presidential candidate George W. Bush to withdraw US soldiers from peacekeeping operations in the Balkans if he is elected.
"This statement was made during the US presidential election and we will not comment on it," a German government spokesman said.
Germany is one of several European nations that has peacekeepers in the Balkans.
Bush said over the weekend that if elected, he would seek to withdraw US troops and have Europeans shoulder more of the peacekeeping burden in Bosnia and the UN-administered Yugoslav province of Kosovo -- BERLIN (AFP)
