Germany has set aside one million marks (500,000 euros, 425,000 dollars) for Kosovo to help bring an end to ethnic violence in the Yugoslav province, the foreign ministry said in a statement Monday.
The ministry said that foreign minister Joschka Fischer had made the pledge to the head of the Serbian Orthodox church in the province, Bishop Artemije after meeting with him in Kosovo Monday.
Fischer expressed concern to Artemije about continued attacks on non-Albanian civilians in Kosovo, in particular on Serbs and gypsies, and said that Germany was committed to supporting the creation a democratic, multi-ethnic Kosovo, the ministry said.
It said the money would be used to support projects that foster understanding between feuding ethnic groups and improve the situation for minorities in the province -- BERLIN (AFP)
