ALBAWABA - Germany called on Israel to launch a probe into "every incident" targeting the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), including the latest destruction of an observation tower with the surrounding fence.

On Sunday, a UNIFIL report revealed that an Israeli army bulldozer "deliberately demolished a UN observation tower and fence in Southern Lebanon". German authorities expressed their great concern towards the latest series of attacks targeting the "Blue Helmet Force".

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Kathrin Deschauer stated that Berlin is expecting Israel to "clarify every incident and release the results of the investigation into the demolition of an observation tower.

"The safety of an operation mandated by the United Nations Security Council and its personnel must not be endangered," Deschauer added.

The peacekeeping force emphasized that violating a UN post and destroying UN equipment was "a flagrant violation of international law and Security Council resolution 1701."

UN Resolution 1701, passed in 2006, asks for a cease-fire between Lebanon and Israel, establishing a demilitarized zone between the Blue Line, the Lebanon-Israel boundary, and the Litani River, where only Lebanese forces and UNIFIL are permitted to operate.

In recent days, Israel has frequently struck UNIFIL sites in southern Lebanon, eliciting global outrage and raising fears about the country's larger military ambitions. The bombings coincide with Israeli airstrikes on alleged Hezbollah locations in Lebanon.
