Two Iraqi generals, including a senior aide to Saddam Hussein, have surrendered to American forces in Baghdad, according to reports.

Saddam's top scientific adviser, one of 55 people on America's most wanted list of Iraqi leaders, gave himself up to US forces, German public TV station ZDF reported.

Al-Saadi, who denounced weapons inspections before war broke out, turned himself in, with a ZDF camera crew accompanying him at his request.

Al-Saadi said he had no information on the whereabouts of Saddam and he also denied that Iraq had chemical or biological weapons. He said he had decided to surrender because he felt "in no way guilty".

The German station said in a statement that al-Saadi "wished to be accompanied by a ZDF team" when he gave himself up.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military said on Saturday its special forces detained 59 men who were trying to flee across the western border of Iraq carrying cash and letters offering rewards for killing American soldiers.

"At a checkpoint in the west, coalition special operations forces stopped a bus with 59 military-aged men travelling west," U.S. Brigadier General Vincent Brooks told a news briefing at Central Command war headquarters in Qatar.

"Among their possessions were letters offering financial rewards for killing American soldiers and 630,000 U.S. dollars in 100-dollar bills. The men and all their possessions have been taken into coalition control."

Brooks said he did not have any information on the nationalities of the men nor any details on who the letters they were carrying were from.

"We've found people who were not Iraqis in a variety of places. We don't know in this case if they were or were not. We certainly know they were leaving Iraq to the west," Brooks said. (Albawaba.com)
