German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer arrived Saturday in Jordan on the third and final part of a regional tour for talks on the US standoff with Iraq and ways of averting a war.
Fischer is expected to hold talks on Sunday with Jordanian Prime Minister Ali Abu Ragheb, followed by a joint news conference ahead of returning home to Berlin later that day.
The Foreign Minister flew into Amman from Cairo where he promised that Berlin would "combine all our efforts" to avert a looming war with Iraq, however warned that he was not sure if diplomacy would be successful.
"We will combine our efforts with the neighbor states, with Arab states, and with our European friends and international friends to find a peaceful solution," he said in Cairo following talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, according to an AFP report.
However, Fischer also warned Iraqi President Saddam Hussein there was "no more room for tactical games" as the United Nations Security Council prepares to listen Monday to a crucial report by chief weapons inspectors. (Albawaba.com)
