Foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) urged the international community to strive for putting an end to Israel’s atrocities against the Palestinian people.
The foreign ministers met in Riyadh Saturday for the 79th GCC ministerial meeting during which they discussed the Palestinian crisis and the “recurrent Iraqi threats to neighboring states,” reported the official Kuwait news agency (KUNA).
In a final communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the ministers renewed absolute support to the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights.
They also “urged Israel to withdraw from the Golan Heights and the Lebanese Shabaa farms,” the communiqué said, cited by the agency.
They also called on the United States to “deploy more efforts to stop Israeli aggressions and resume peace talks.”
Meanwhile, the GCC ministers urged Iraq to “halt its threats against its neighbors and show goodwill in words and deeds.”
The communiqué also called on Iraq to implement UN resolutions, notably the ones “related to the release of Kuwaiti POWs held in Iraqi prisons for more than a decade now.”
The ministers urged Baghdad to cooperate with the United Nations to settle pending issues related to the mass-destruction weapons, said the communiqué.
The ministers also discussed Iran’s occupation of three Emirati isles in the Arabian Gulf.
The GCC ministers expressed their countries' support to the United Arab Emirates in its efforts to regain sovereignty on its islands, said KUNA.
“Iran's rejection of peaceful initiatives contradicts with its declared wish to initiate a dialogue and put an end to the tension that jeopardizes security and stability in the gulf region.”
The communiqué condemned as well the Iranian military maneuvers on the three occupied islands terming these acts as "provocative and a source of concern." – Albawaba.com
