The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) marked Friday its 20th foundation anniversary, amidst growing hopes of further prosperity and closer integration.

Over the past 20 years of its history, the grouping has repeatedly encountered difficulties, met challenges and overcome obstacles placed in its way to emerge stronger and united as ever, according to the Gulf Times newspaper.

This year’s celebrations were flavored with the taste of success, as GCC member states have managed to settle their border disputes.

The ruling issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on March 16 settling the border dispute between Qatar and Bahrain cleared the joint GCC process of joint action from the last thorny issue impeding cooperation.

The ruling was immediately accepted by both countries at the highest level.

The positive response of both countries drew praise and appreciation from the rest of the GCC members as well as Arab and world countries.

Shortly afterwards, Qatar and Saudi Arabia settled their border dispute – Albawaba.com
