The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states will draw up a policy to rationalize water consumption and conduct research on desalination projects, UAE’s minister of agriculture, Saeed Mohammed Al Raqabani, was quoted as saying by the Gulf News.

Al Raqabani said a GCC ministerial committee has been established to formulate the policy.

The aim would be to eliminate water shortages and emphasize desalination research, he said.

"The policy will also strive to cut the cost of desalination projects and improve the technical capabilities of the GCC countries," the minister said.

"Rationalization of water consumption is a joint responsibility of the government as well as its citizens and expatriate residents.”

“School teachers and preachers also have a great role to play. Engineers and technicians should also consider the importance of water when designing and carrying out water supply networks," he added – Albawaba.com
