The UN refugee agency for Palestinians reported Thursday that it found rockets stored in one of its vacant schools in Gaza, according to Al Arabiya News Thursday.
“Yesterday, in the course of the regular inspection of its premises, UNRWA discovered approximately 20 rockets hidden in a vacant school in the Gaza Strip,” the agency said in a statement as reported by Al Arabiya.
“UNRWA strongly condemns the group or groups responsible for placing the weapons in one of its installations,” the statement added.
UNRWA is currently conducting a thorough investigation regarding the incident.
UNRWA was established in 1949 to provide assistance, protection and related services and support to Palestinian refugees following the declaration of the state of Israel.
Many UNRWA facilities have been used in recent days as safe houses for Palestinians in Gaza fleeing ongoing Israeli strikes, but many UNRWA facilities have been targeted nonetheless.
UNRWA operates in the Palestinian territories as well as in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.
