ALBAWABA - sraeli War Council member Benny Gantz has issued a dramatic ultimatum, giving the cabinet until June 8th to sign off on a detailed 6-point plan intended to resolve the situation in Gaza.
Former military commander and opposition leader Benny Gantz issued a severe warning to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's team, stating that his party will leave the coalition government if the proposal was not approved.
Gantz denounced the existing strategy as unsustainable and underlined the urgent need for change at a speech on Saturday night. He called on the Prime Minister to choose unity and triumph above division and calamity, accusing Netanyahu of leading the country towards disaster.
Among the main goals of Gantz's plan are the release of Israeli prisoners imprisoned by Hamas, the end of Hamas governance, and Gaza's disarming with the guarantee of an ongoing Israeli military presence.
The proposal also calls for the installation of an international civilian government in Gaza to supervise governance and ease the repatriation of displaced residents.
In addition, Gantz put up plans for regional normalization, such as attempting to mend Saudi Arabian ties and win over the Arab world. In order to increase the might of the Israeli military, he also emphasized the need of enlisting students from religious institutions.
Gantz's ultimatum highlights the growing discord inside the Israeli administration about how it is conducting the Gaza situation. The coalition's future is in jeopardy as the deadline draws near and Netanyahu is under increasing pressure to accede to Gantz's demands or face the fall of his administration.
