ALBAWABA - Itamar Ben-Gvir, the minister of national security in Israel, has come under heavy fire from Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who charges him with acting carelessly and causing internal strife.
By raising the alarm about the grave consequences of Ben-Gvir's activities, Gallant confirmed that the Shin Bet security service, under the leadership of Ronen Bar, is dutifully carrying out its duty in a post on the social networking site X.
In a recent letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar warned of the rising threat of "Jewish terrorism" directed at Palestinians in the West Bank. Gallant defended Bar in his remarks. Bar issued a warning, stating that there is a serious risk to Israel's security and future from these acts.
Channel 12 in Israel said that Bar told Netanyahu that Jewish radicals are committing more "nationalist crimes" and that leaders of the movement are trying to weaken the position of Israeli soldiers in the West Bank.
Bar emphasized that the absence of deterrence and the support that criminals receive from Knesset members and government officials are the main reasons why the problem of "Jewish terrorism" is growing. He cautioned that the efficacy of the Israeli military is being negatively impacted by this trend. Bar also issued a warning, stating that Ben-Gvir's provocations at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound may spark widespread rioting and fundamentally change the security situation in Israel.
According to reports from Yedioth Ahronoth and Israeli Army Radio, Ben-Gvir abruptly left a recent Security Cabinet meeting and demanded that Shin Bet Chief Bar be fired.
Since October 2023, there has been a sharp increase in Israeli settlers' violent attacks on Palestinian villages in the West Bank, which has coincided with the ongoing struggle in Gaza.
One especially serious episode featured around a hundred settlers invading the village of Jit, which is close to Qalqilya, with weapons and knives. The Israelis tried to smash Palestinian vehicles, break into homes, and set several on fire.
