ALBAWABA - Cellular carriers Alfa and MTC Lebanon announced facing service distributions in the Lebanese town of Jezzine due to fuel shortage and possible mechanical error.
Local official Hafiz Kiwan said that the situation in the small towns in Jezzine is deteriorating, calling on authorities to work on a plan to facilitate the entry of fuel to remote towns.
Électricité du Liban (EDL), the Lebanese energy company, said earlier in August that the final remaining power-producing unit on the national system was entirely shut down, resulting in a statewide blackout.
"Under the current conditions, we inform you that as of Saturday, August 17, 2024, the last power generation unit at the Zahrani plant has completely ceased operations," the company announced.
The outage was blamed on the "complete depletion of the plant's fuel oil reserves," which has resulted in a total disruption of electricity supply across Lebanon, disrupting critical services such as airports, ports, water pumps, sewage systems, and prisons.
