An American military intelligence team in Iraq has found a dozen French passports, and defense officials believe others were used by former Iraqi officials to escape the country, according to a news report Saturday.

The Washington Times quoted American defense officials as saying they were still investigating whether the passports found were forged by Saddam Hussein's fallen regime, or whether they were genuine and either provided by the French government or stolen.

The French Embassy in Washington, for its part, denied previous charges that it provided former Iraqi officials with passports, and dismissed news reports of French collaboration with Saddam Hussein’s regime as "dis-information." (Albawaba.com)
