ALBAWABA - In his visit to Lebanon today, French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne will be presenting a proposal to prevent further escalation between Hezbollah and its arch-foe Israel.

After Israel launched its latest brutal aggression on Gaza, the two have been exchanging attacks and almost daily strikes between Southern Lebanon and Northern occupied territories.

Tension has increased since Iran launched a barrage of missiles on Israel in response to an Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy in the Syrian capital Damascus that killed members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps’ overseas Quds Force.

As the Israeli aggression on Gaza enters its seventh month, Hezbollah has reaffirmed on multiple occasions that it will not enter any concrete discussion with any party associated with the current situation until there is a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

French foreign ministry deputy spokesperson Christophe Lemoine said at a news conference: "The objective is to prevent a regional conflagration and avoid that the situation deteriorates even more on the border between Israel and Lebanon,".

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Nikati and Lebanon's army head, Joseph Aoun, met with French President Emmanuel Macron earlier this month to discuss the French plan.

In a letter to the French embassy in Beirut in March, Lebanon's foreign minister stated that the French proposal would be an important step toward peace and security in Lebanon and the region.

Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel

Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.

Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip and captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.

In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

The latest statistics by the Ministry of Health in Gaza revealed that the death toll from Israeli brutal pounding on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has soared to 34,388+ people, with more than 77,437+ injuries.

Since then, approximately 85% of Gazans have been displaced, all of whom are suffering from severe food insecurity, and the healthcare system has collapsed. Hundreds of thousands of people lack shelter, and aid trucks are entering the area at a lower rate than before the conflict began.
