Four Italian warships, including the aircraft carrier Garibaldi, passed through the Suez Canal Thursday on the way to join allied naval forces participating in the campaign against Afghanistan, canal officials told AFP.

The other vessels were the frigates Aviere and Zeffiro and the support ship Etna, the officials said.

The Suez canal was reopened to shipping last Friday after a closure of several hours to free three grounded freighters – Albawaba.com
