Egypt’s new budget, which will be discussed this week by the Council of Ministers, has allocated 54 billion pounds ($14b approximately) for salaries, wages and improving public services, according to Al Ahram daily newspaper, which cited an official at the Ministry of Finance official as saying.
The official said the figure presents an increase of 9 billion pounds over the current budget and also amounts to 45 percent of the total budget.
The official pointed out that 33 billion pounds have been allocated for salaries and wages and added that 500 million pounds have been allocated for the state employees salary increments, which constitutes 10 percent of the total budget. 150 million pounds have also been allocated for amalgamating salary increments in the employees' basic salaries for the period 1996 to 1997 - Albawaba.com
