Former Lebanese prime minister Salim Hoss lambasted the United States on Monday for encouraging Israel to keep up its assaults against the Palestinians, and blasted Arabs for failing to unite against the Jewish state's actions.
Hoss ridiculed Qatar's assertions during last week's Arab League foreign ministerial meeting that no boycott of Israel would be comprehensive, reported the Daily Star.
"It appears that the foreign ministers claimed they had taken secret decisions to support the Palestinians to cover their shame and inability to take firm decisions in support of the Palestinians," he told a reporter at his home.
Hoss also decried the United States' boycott of an anti-racism conference in Durban, South Africa, on the grounds it would mobilize public opinion against Israel.
"How can such statements be uttered by a president of a superpower that claims to advocate freedom, justice, democracy and human rights, knowing that Israel is a terrorist and occupying power?" Hoss asked.
Reports said the US Secretary of State Collin Powell would not attend the meeting, and it is still not known whether a US delegation will attend it – Albawaba.com
