A veteran Lebanese member of parliament threatened Wednesday that he would reveal sensitive information regarding the Lebanese elections which ended on Sunday with a landslide victory for the former Lebanese premier Rafiq Hariri and his allies.
“I will not say anything right now,” Najah Wakim told Albawaba.com in a telephone interview, “I will disclose everything during the press conference I intend to hold next week.”
“I will uncover what is concealed, and present all the facts related to the victory of [former] Prime Minister Hariri,” said the former deputy who withdrew his candidacy for the new parliament days before the first round of election took place on August 27th.
Wakim, who held the Orthodox seat for more than one session, said he will present at the intended presser his views of the new era in Lebanon.
The veteran MP had said before the elections that “results are known in advance,” hinting to the Syrian influence in the country and the alleged role it plays in the election of Parliament.
There are 35, 000 Syrian troops stationed in Lebanon.
Meanwhile, former Lebanese minister Michal Eddeh, said in an interview with Albawaba.com that chances are that Hariri will form the new government in Lebanon.
“According to the constitution, the president has to conduct consultations with the parliament. The [results] of these consultations are obligatory to the president,” Eddeh said.
“In light of circumstances, it is apparent that Hariri will win the support of the majority of the deputies, especially in light of the fact that his main opponents Salim Hoss and Tamam Slam did not make it in the elections,” the former minister said.
The Consultations are due to take place in 45 days, he added.
Eddeh said he believes that Hariri, in case he rises to power again, would play the regional game successfully, since the politician who served as prime minister from 1992-1998, “has experience and enjoys regional and Arab support.”
He added that the election of Hariri is a positive development as regards to the economic situation in Lebanon.
Asked if there are hard feelings in the relationship between Hariri and President Emile Lahoud, Eddeh said, “there are no hard feelings between them, yet they are not friends.”
He stressed that personal feelings are irrelevant in this context because the relationship between the two politicians is supposed to be built on interests.
