Former Lebanese minister and member of parliament for Jizzine, Edmund Rizq, has said that the newly formed government in Lebanon headed by Rafiq Hariri is a disappointment and “a slam to the face of democratic and moral values.”
In a statement to Albawanba.com on Monday, Rizq criticized the composition of the cabinet saying it “embodies lack of self-reliance and national character, and exposes all who took part in its formation.”
The former minister said that the new government does not rise to the expectations of the Lebanese people because portfolios were distributed out of favoritism, saying that the gap between the “elite” and the “angry” people is so wide.
He accused President Emile Lahoud of committing mistakes “that would be enough to put an end to the political career of any leader in any country that respects itself.”
He charged that the agreement between Lahoud and Hariri, who have been political rivals, was not a matter of co-existence. Rather, “it is distributing the loot between them.”
Asked what he meant by the parties taking part in the composition of the government, Rizq said that there are ministers adopted by Syria, others by President Lahoud and the rest are Hariri’s men.
“These ministers have no program in common, no ideology, no unified f political thought, nor national loyalty,” he said, charging that the only things that bring them together is their lust for power and “the party that manipulates government in Lebanon.”
According to the politician, many “true” leaders of Lebanon have expressed their dissatisfaction regarding the formation of the new cabinet, including clergymen and leading politicians like Walid Jumblatt, Kamel Asaad among others -- Albawaba.com
