Five newborn babies die of cold in Gaza

ALBAWABA - At least five newborn babies died in the past two weeks in the Gaza Strip due to freezing weather, Anadolu Agency reported. 

Three children passed away due to the cold weather and lack of heating in Gaza, according to the medical director of the Friends of the Patients Hospital, Dr. Saeed Salah. In addition, Sham Yousef Al-Shambari, 60 days old, died in her family’s tent in the Al-Mawasi area, west of the city of Khan Yunis.

In a video shared by the Government Media Office, Salah confirmed on Monday that the nursery department received eight cases of newborn babies suffering from severe cold, and these cases were admitted to intensive care.

He added that three children died within hours of their admission, and they were at a young age (one to two days) and weighed between 1.7 and 2 kilograms. In the video, the doctor also noted three other cases are in critical condition.

Salah pointed out that 5 infants between the ages of 1 and 15 days died as a result of the severe cold within two weeks, according to Anadolu report.
