A five-men terror cell with possible ties to Al-Qaeda has been was dismantled by Bahraini security authorities Thursday, February 13. This is the first time the island kingdom had publicized the arrest of Bahraini “terrorists”.

All five suspects are Sunnis of Bahraini origin, who were targeting Americans, according to a local official quoted by AFP. Last week Washington instructed all non-essential US embassy personnel to leave Bahrain, where 4,000 US troops are currently stationed in the Gulf headquarters of the US Navy's 5th Fleet.

The men arrested “were plotting terrorist acts ... targeting the kingdom's national interests and endangering the lives of innocent citizens," reported the official BNA news agency. Pistols, machineguns and ammunition were reportedly seized by Bahraini security forces who are currently questioning the five. — (Albawaba.com)
