Five killed, Two Kidnapped in New Wave of Algeria Violence

Five Algerian civilians were killed on the night of Saturday-Sunday and another was injured while two people were kidnapped in attacks perpetrated by suspected Islamist extremists in the Aghwat and Tiyart provinces, south and southwest of the capital, the press said Monday.  

 

Al-Khabar newspaper said five passengers of a collective taxi including a 26-year-old woman were heading to Tiyart when their car was showered by bullets at the al-Qaada village in al-Aghwat province, 400 kilometers south of Algiers.  

 

And in the Tiyart province, 250 kilometers southwest of the capital, a group of gunmen believed to be Muslim extremists, according to the authorities, attacked three shepherds between the villages of in al-Hadid and Takhmart, wounding one of them. More than 30 people were killed since the beginning of the year in scattered violence acts, according to press reports. (Albawaba.com)
