Security officer Nu’man El-Hidban has his own worries at this year’s Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts. This was the first time he was sent to Jerash to take part in the operation to ensure peace and security during the festival’s 15 days.
Speaking to Albawaba, Hidban said one of the major problems that face security men in Jerash is the sale of extra tickets for seats exceeding theatres capacity in the ancient city which makes the area overcrowded and leads to pressure on both the security men and the citizens. He said “ this causes misunderstanding of the security measures to which citizens react nervously, unaware that security measures are not responsible for congestions”.
Hidban believes that certain acts by young people stand behind troubles that erupt at times during the festival noting that young people overreact and cause tensions by simply being unaware of how to behave.
He adds “ we face another problem when some city (Jerash) residents try to get to the festival sites without tickets, because they know all the entrances and how to infiltrate to the area of the festival.”
The officer said security is normally a prime concern outside the theatres and other sites of the festival and any abnormal acts during the performances could be handled by leading troublemakers outside the stage – Albawaba.com
