At least five members of a family have been killed by a bomb explosion on Tuesday in Afghanistan`s northern Faryab province, Afghan officials said.

The bomb was planted in the house of a pro-government element in the Gurziwan district, local officials told Anadolu Agency.

According to provincial police spokesman Sayed Massoud, the bomb was planted by militants in the house of a critic of the Taliban named Hassan Bai.

“Hassan Bai along with his wife, son, daughter in law and another woman were killed by a bomb explosion and two others, including a woman and a child, were wounded,” Massoud said.

Faryab, once the most peaceful province in northern Afghanistan has seen increasing violence in recent years. According to local officials, hundreds of local and foreign militants have moved from Afghanistan’s south, the hotbed of Taliban militants to Faryab to destabilize the province.

In another development in the southeastern Ghazni province, armed militants kidnapped four members of a family, said local officials.

According to provincial council chief Khaliqdad Akbari, the gunmen stopped a car in Gilan district and kidnapped the passengers.

“The kidnapped people were members of a family,” Akbari said, adding that two were children.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the incidents.
