ALBAWABA - A fire broke out in a Madrid nursing home early Sunday, killing two ladies and injuring at least ten others, according to Spanish rescue services.

The fire broke out at 7 a.m. (0600 GMT) at the building, which was home to around 40 people, Isabel Casado, a supervisor with Madrid's emergency services, said in a video posted on X.

One of the injured, a lady, was in severe condition due to her burns, while the others required treatment for smoke inhalation, Casado said.

According to firefighter Jose Luis Castillo, the fire started in a room on the first level, and the second story got "flooded with smoke". "We had to evacuate the residents to a secure place," he said.

Isabel Diaz Ayuso, the leader of Madrid's regional administration, said she "deeply regretted the death of two women" at the property. "We stand in solidarity with the deceased, the injured, and the residential staff. We are here to meet all of their needs. "RIP," she posted on X.
