Fighter jet crash kills two pilots in North Ossetia, Russia

ALBAWABA - Two pilots were killed when a Russian Su-34 fighter aircraft crashed on Tuesday while being used for training in Russia's North Ossetia area in the North Caucasus, according to a statement from the Defense Ministry.

The ministry stated that a special commission is investigating the scene to determine all the details surrounding the accident and that a technical malfunction. is the primary reason for the disaster.

"In the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, a Su-34 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces crashed in a mountainous area while performing a planned training flight. The plane crashed in a deserted area. The crew was killed," the defense ministry statement reads.

Locals in North Ossetia's Gorny Dzuarikau town reported hearing an explosion late at night, according to the Russian Telegram channel Mash.

The Russian Su-34 is a medium-range fighter-bomber from the Soviet period. In the spring of 2024, the Ukrainian military claimed to have shot down several Su-34 aircraft.
