ALBAWABA- An Israeli air strike on the southern Lebanese town of Deir Qanoun al-Nahr killed four people and wounded more than 10 others, Lebanese health authorities said, in one of the deadliest attacks since the extension of the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon has intensified sharply since March 2, 2026, amid wider regional tensions linked to US-Israeli operations against Iran. A US-mediated ceasefire came into effect on April 16 and was later extended by 45 days in mid-May. However, violations by both sides have continued.
Israel has carried out repeated strikes targeting what it describes as Hezbollah military infrastructure and operatives. At the same time, Hezbollah has continued launching rockets, drones, and attacks on Israeli forces in southern Lebanon. Israeli troops have also maintained limited operations and positions inside parts of southern Lebanon.
According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health, more than 3,000 people have been killed in Lebanon since the fighting escalated in March, with recent reports placing the death toll at around 3,020. The number of wounded exceeds 9,000, including civilians, Hezbollah fighters, and members of other armed groups.
Lebanese hospitals remain under severe pressure, amid shortages of medical supplies, repeated calls for blood donations, and reports of damage to healthcare facilities. The figures, widely cited by international media, are based primarily on Lebanese official sources.
Several incidents resulted in civilian casualties, including paramedics and residents travelling on local roads, while rescue teams continued searching through rubble following successive strikes. The attacks have persisted despite the ceasefire extension, with Israel frequently issuing evacuation warnings to residents of targeted villages beforehand.
On the Israeli side, recent military losses include the death of Capt. Maoz Israel Recanati, 24, a platoon commander in the Golani Brigade’s 12th Battalion, who was killed in a Hezbollah explosive drone attack in southern Lebanon. Israel has reported dozens of military fatalities since the latest phase of fighting began in March.
The conflict has displaced more than one million people across Lebanon and caused widespread destruction in southern regions. International rights groups, including Amnesty International, have raised concerns over civilian casualties and strikes on populated areas and infrastructure.
