The Jerash Festival management has decided to cancel the Rum Band performance scheduled for the opening ceremony on Wednesday, according to the festival’s general manager.
“We are only playing the National Anthem after the death of the soldiers,” said Akram Masarweh Tuesday evening.
A fatal crash of a C-130 military transport aircraft early Tuesday resulted in the death of 13 Jordanian Elite Troop members on a routine mission in the eastern desert of Jordan.
Rum band, established in 1998, is a Jordanian group comprised of 13-15 young musicians.
In an interview with Albawaba.com on Monday, band founder Tarek Nasser said the performance of Rum’s ‘Eyoun Ala Al-Sharq’ was scheduled to take place at the North Theater of Jerash on Wednesday.
Most of Nasser’s compositions hold titles derived from the names of Jordanian cities or towns, which is where the artist finds his “source of inspiration,” he said.
No other performance is scheduled for the band during the festival.
