Israel has damaged 17 Palestinian ambulances during the bloody clashes that have been raging for more than two weeks in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, according to Dr. Fathi Arafat, head of the Palestinian Red Crescent, who charged that the attacks on the vehicles were “premeditated attempts to hinder transferring the injured to hospitals.”

In a telephone interview with Albawaba.com on Thursday, Dr. Arafat added that the Israeli closure of the Palestinian territories is another barrier that blocks the medical aid and donated blood to the medical facilities in Palestine.

Nevertheless, the Palestinian medical personnel are working round the clock treating casualties of injuries, according to Arafat.

He said that one of the Palestinian medics was killed in the clashes while six others were injured. He said that his organization had reported the Israeli violations to the International Red Cross Society, which “could do nothing.”

So far the Palestinian medics have treated about 3500 Palestinians wounded in the confrontations, according to the Red Crescent official, who confirmed that many of the injuries have been in the upper part of the body -- Albawaba.com
