In a statement by the Central Committee of the PLO mainstream movement, Fateh, the group stressed that the Palestinian Intifada “is the battle for freedom, Independence and return.”

The statement, issued on the occasion of the International Day for Solidarity with the Palestinian People and the Intifada’s entering its third month, said that the popular uprising has resulted in an unprecedented form of national unity among the Palestinians, who, both Muslims and Christians, take the same stand in refusing any more concessions to Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak.

The top body in Fateh underlined in the statement, the first since the outbreak of the Intifada, that the uprising has pinpointed seven facts:

1- The cause behind the eruption of the Intifada was the political dilemma in which the peace process fell into, due to Barak and his government’s insistence on reinforcing the occupation and imposing sovereignty on the holy sites in Jerusalem.

2- Likud leader Ariel Sharon's visit to Al Aqsa mosque sparked the Muslim and Christian rage in the Palestinian lands, the 1948 Palestine and the Muslim and Christian world I general. Things have reached the moment of no return and there is no way that Palestinians give up their ultimate goal: the liberation of the Aqsa and Jerusalem.

3- The national unity that brought together all the nationalist and Islamic movement on the path of struggle is the most effective weapon, and the only way to keep the Intifada going until the full liberation, independence and return of refugees.

4- The barbaric reaction of the enemy’s Zionist forces and the herds of settlers against the civil protests of the Palestinian people have gone beyond the familiar in previous experiences. Killing Palestinians in cold blood has become a practice that led to angry reactions from the Palestinians who went further than the civil activities of the Intifada. Consequently, there have been casualties among the enemy. Israel sees that as a huge price to pay and has begun looking for ways to calm down the situation and thus offered to go back to the pre-Intifada status quo.

5- The Intifada broke out in a situation where the Palestinian National Authority has accomplished a lot in the field of development and construction. These achievements have been targeted by the Israeli attacks in a one-sided war. Therefore, any Israeli offer to end the Intifada in return for resuming the peace talks as if nothing has happened is rejected by both the PNA and the Palestinian people.

6- The USA has proved its undoubted bias towards Israel, a matter which deprived it of its credibility as affair peace broker.

7- Coordination efforts to keep the Intifada going is a source of power for the PNA if it decides to continue with the peace process under new conditions, and different framework and sponsorship.
